Description
John A Macdonald , the man responsible for the creation of Canada was living in Kingston in 1865 , part of Upper Canada . His life during this time is well documented as being greatly in debt due to the medical costs of his gravely ill first wife . Unable to practice law because of his commitment to her . Also chose to hit the bottle on numerous occasions . This I.O.U. for $214 , a lot of money then , was discovered amongst some other items bought at a yard sale in Kingston . Included in the pictures is an actual signature of Macdonald . The resemblance of the I.O.U. signature is far TOO SIMILAR in structure to be a coincidence . The over-all slant , the joining of the " A " and the " M " , the gap between the other letters and even the finishing stroke . Why not the name " John " in this signature , one theory is that Macdonald wished to keep his I.O.U.'s somewhat obscured from others . The timeline in his life at that particular time cannot be dismissed and close examination upon the two signatures shows a near exact match . No two people sign their name with that many similarities . This is a piece that very well could be part of a museum collection , a part of Canadian history . The signature of comparison was sold in Feb/2008 to someone in Ottawa for $8000 . Feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to answer them .
